In partnership with Informa and TOC Worldwide, Tanger Med organized the first edition of TOC Africa in Tangier, on Wednesday September 20 and Thursday September 21, 2023.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Fouad Brini, Chairman of Tanger Med Group and Mr. Mohammed Abdeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, and attended by Mr. Omar Moro, President of the Regional Council of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Mr. Paul Holloway, Managing Director of TOC Worldwide.

TOC (Terminal Operations Conference), considered a key global event for stimulating the maritime and logistics sector, is organized annually in the nerve centers of world trade: in Europe in Rotterdam, in Asia in Singapore and in America in Panama.

This global meeting of port and logistics platforms was held in Tangier, Africa, just a few kilometers from Tanger Med industrial port complex, in a strategic location: the Strait of Gibraltar, a veritable crossroads for international trade, at the convergence of the main shipping routes, and a bridge linking Africa and Europe.

In his opening speech, Mr. Fouad Brini, Chairman of Tanger Med Group, declared: “In addition to being the leading port platform in both the Mediterranean and Africa, Tanger Med is positioned as an integrated industrial-port platform, at the service of our continent’s logistics competitiveness. The fruit of the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and in line with the desire to promote South-South cooperation, Tanger Med is fully in line with this vision, supporting all initiatives aimed at encouraging cooperation between port authorities and African special economic zones.”

He added, “As a port and logistics player, Tanger Med, as it has done in the past by driving initiatives in favor of African port authorities and special economic zones, is committed to pursuing cooperation, sharing expertise and joint development.”

Marsa Maroc and its subsidiary Tanger Alliance also took part in TOC Africa, with an exhibition stand and participation in round-table discussions on “Digitizing Maritime & Logistics in Africa” and “Developing a thriving African community in Africa”.

The aim of this event is to bring together key players in the maritime and logistics sector in Africa and the rest of the world, for exchange, debate and networking.

This year’s event saw the participation of 39 countries, including 20 African countries, 22 port authorities (16 of them African), 50 port and logistics players, and over 40 international speakers, all of whom came together to discuss best practices and the state of the art in the sector in Africa.
