After the improvement public health situation, Moroccans from all over the world were finally able to return home thanks to the different maritime connections that link the country with Europe.
Tanger Med Passenger Port has taken advantage of the forced shutdown period due to the pandemic to make the necessary improvements to the reception facilities to welcome Moroccans from around the world during this 2022 campaign in the best conditions in terms of comfort and safety.
Therefore, a budget of 150 Million Dirhams (MAD) was allocated to prepare the transit process, ensuring fluidity and comfort, through the strengthening of reception capacities, passenger comfort, and inspection.
As for the maritime fleet deployed for the Tanger MedAlgeciras maritime links, it has been strengthened to reach a daily transport capacity of 40,000 passengers and 10,000 vehicles during peak traffic days. Long distance night ferries with a weekly transport capacity of 20,000 passengers and 7,000 cars, have also been mobilized, to ensure long distance crossings to Spain (port of Barcelona), Italy (port of Genoa) and France (ports of Marseille and Sète).
The Marhaba 2022 campaign took place in favorable conditions thanks to the combined efforts of all the actors involved in the operation, in particular the teams of Tanger Med Port Authority, the General Directorate of National Security, the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes, the Border Health Inspection, the Royal Gendarmerie, Auxiliary Forces, and the local authority, with the coordination of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
Tanger Med Passenger Port, which is considered to be the major port of access to the Kingdom of Morocco, has achieved 59% and 64%, respectively, of the passenger and vehicle global traffic of Moroccan ports, requiring efforts and means deployed throughout the period of Marhaba 2022 for the overall satisfaction of Moroccans from around the world who have chosen to traverl through Tanger Med Passeger Port.
Tanger Med closed the Marhaba 2022 campaign with a traffic totaling 1,352,322 passengers and 342,059 vehicles that passed through the port from June 5th to September 15th, 2022.
