The first edition of the African Harbor Managers’ Committee “AHMC” seminar was held on March 2-3 in Tangier, under the theme “The crucial role of the human factor for a bestfuture of African ports”.
Initiated by AHMC as the regional committee of the International Harbour Master’s Association “IHMA”, the event was held under the aegis of the Ministry of Equipment and Water, in partnership with the Association of Moroccan Port Officers (ACOPM). The event succeeded in bringing together experts, harbormasters, and other players in the port and maritime sector, representing twenty-five countries, including some twenty from Africa.
Tanger Med Port Authority took part in the seminar program, organized around a variety of themes including navigation, the role of women in the maritime and port sector, hazardous materials management, and operational and technological performance.
Mr. Hassan Abkari, General Manager of Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA), praised the efforts made by port commanders to achieve today’s high levels of performance, and emphasized that the themes addressed during the seminar were of vital importance for African ports, which are called upon to make a strong commitment to innovation and efficiency, but also to believe in their potential as world-class ports. He added that Tanger Med Port Complex is committed to ensuring that African ports can benefit from its experience, thanks to direct assistance in studies, infrastructure projects, and training in port trades, particularly in the sectors of harbor mastering and pilotage.
